  • Groundhog Day Accords: How an Extended Winter and Delayed Mating Season Will Negatively Impact the Elk County Military (Opinion)

The fear of winter returning this year has everyone on high alert. With Elk County now controlling the Nation of Jefferson County, and its capital of Punxsutawney, people across the world, from Erie to Pittsburgh, have reason to be concerned. The only hope acting in favor of western Pennsylvania is the possibility of an extended winter. Delaying mating season for Elk County would mean an inability to raise troops. According to researchers at Clarion University, excessive cold weather means increased chances of frigidity that will make it impossible for Elk residents to find interest in each other at a time when their kind would normally do that kind of thing. The Pennsylvania Land and Treaty Organization may be able to strategically use this matter to their advantage in defeating Elk County long term. Elk troops have been impossible to stop for anyone who has tried to stand in their way. However, if the allies can hold their ground just long enough, perhaps enough Elk troops will get struck by oncoming traffic when trying to cross the street. Eventually, they will be forced to withdraw until new offspring are born. At this point in time, only Clarion has been hit by a major snowstorm. Mayor Bighorn of Elk County inevitably will be setting his eye on Venango as soon as he can secure Clarion County's capital of Clarion Township. Then, we will be covered in several feet of snow. Mating season seems to be the only hope for the counties united against the common evil. The only question remaining is whether Bighorn will be dumb enough to delay mating season to keep his enemies subdued in snowstorms.

  • Allegheny County Demands Lawrence Return West Pittsburgh

It was stolen from the city in 1902. The whole west side of Pittsburgh—gone with no explanation. For years, Allegheny County officials have been searching, trying to find out who stole all the buildings that made up the west side of town. Now, they have finally discovered it two counties away. It was Mayor Steelhead of Pittsburgh who made the discovery while looking at a map. Steelhead, who reads his map every day during breakfast, decided to check the Lawrence County section. That’s when it stood out to him. Mayor Steelhead reading his morning map West Pittsburgh was listed plain as day. The county was not even trying to hide the fact that they had it all this time. Steelhead even checked the landmarks. From the hills, to the buildings, to the underground sewage system, everything was exactly the same as the west side recorded from 1902. "The families in those homes have lived there this entire time, unaware they were taken," Mayor Steelhead told the press. "This injustice does not require we pay anything. Instead, Lawrence owes us the very thing they stole in a single night." Lawrence County has not responded to the accusations Steelhead is making. With silence being their preferred response, Steelhead states that the west side of Allegheny's capital will be taken back one way or another. They just need to figure out how to drag it the entire 46 miles. The complaint may be controversial given that Pittsburgh is refusing to surrender Mount Washington to their neighboring county of Washington County. Mayor George Washington of Washington Township, capital of Washington County, has been arguing for the ownership of Mount Washington since it was discovered that Pittsburgh stole it from them. Mount Washington in Pittsburgh Now, Allegheny must decide if they want to be accused of hypocrisy by dragging the entire west half of Pittsburgh back to their capital city. Should they choose to do so, they will have the challenge of sneaking the entire section of town through Beaver or Butler County unnoticed.

  • Oil City Spared as Warren’s Launched Diaper Accidentally Hits Titusville

It's a mistake—a fifteen-mile-off-course mistake, to be exact. Warren County's diaper missile missed its target so badly, it struck the capital of their ally, East Crawford. This came less than three days after East Crawford, Warren County, and Elk County signed a treaty to form the Zugnar Alliance. Warren County has not played a major role in the war between the counties. Other than their diaper assault on Tionesta last February, no major intervention has been made against the Pennsylvania Land and Treaty Organization. Pennsylvania Land and Treaty Organization (PLATO) in blue Now, with Elk County controlling the nation of Jefferson County and making progress toward Clarion County’s capital of Clarion, Warren has taken an aggressive measure that ended in the worst way possible. Titusville is covered in baby poop. "We are humiliated but not broken by this obvious technical glitch caused by Venango County intelligence." Mayor Dumbdumb told the community. Dumdum speaks at Titusville rally Venango County doesn't have a department of intelligence. Only one resident has graduated the third grade, and they are still working to help the rest of the community do the same. Nonetheless, Dumbdumb is convinced that the diaper, launched by catapult, was sabotaged by someone hacking its internal GPS. Given the magnitude of this mistake, Warren went along with Dumbdumb’s allegations. "We are not about to be blamed for redirecting a diaper toward our enemy in Titusville," President Mayor Blunders told the press outside of City Hall. Blunders speaks after surfacing from the outhouse When news of the diaper striking Titusville came to Blunders, he did not hesitate to climb out of the lower level of City Hall, which also serves as the City Outhouse. Venango County Secret Service agents advised Blunders to avoid disputing the claims made by Dumbdumb. Blunders did it anyway, believing that defending Venango's honor was more important than the advantage of seeming technologically superior. Venango County is expected to face another assault now that Blunders has spilled the beans. Locals are encouraged to consider signing up for the Venango County military, given we only have three members—one of which is still stuck in Marienville.

  • Warren Launches Diaper at Oil City: City Preparing Anti-Diaper Defense System

The capital of Venango County is under attack once again as Warren County has made good on their threat to launch a dirty diaper toward the city. According to sources at the Warren Peace News Network, Mayor Fossil Fuel has given an executive order for the Warren Airforce to launch a diaper that will ensure the ultimate humiliation of Oil City. President Mayor Blunders of the Venango States of America has been moved to the lower levels of City Hall, which also shares space with the City Outhouse. Venango County Secret Service Agents are guarding the hole inside the outhouse as we speak as Air Traffic Control readies the Anti-Diaper Defense System. Venango County Secret Service Agents guarding City Hall, which is also the City Outhouse Warren has already performed an assault on a neighboring ally to Venango County earlier this year. When Warren struck Forest County's second capital of Tionesta, the city was fortunate to find the smell blended perfectly with the fish in the river. Warren’s bombing of Tionesta Oil City might not be so fortunate given their repulsive traits are visual rather than a stench. A nuclear diaper would surely add to the deterring nature of the town, leading to potential discussions of moving the capital to Franklin. The diaper is expected to arrive in an hour. That's just enough time for President Mayor Blunders to make matters right with Mayor Fossil Fuel. Fossil Fuel accused Blunders of once again trying to revive the oil industry by siphoning Warren’s oil well with a 70-mile-long strand of straws. In a press briefing earlier this week, Mayor Blunders denied the allegations as a man could be seen behind his podium carrying a bundle of straws in his arms. Mayor Blunders trying to convince the press the grease is just facial hair It is unlikely that Blunders will admit to the allegations presented by Mayor Fossil Fuel. As a result, Oil City may find themselves covered in infant excrement. Experts have advised locals to remain indoors until the matter can be addressed. Obviously, the anti-diaper defense system can only launch an anti-diaper missile a maximum of 20 feet into the air, meaning that when the diaper is struck, it will still pour all over the city. We are surely doomed.

  • Network Folds After Struggling to Compete with Similar Rival Brand

They were too late in claiming the word "now" as a name. Despite having a vision dating back to 2002, the less successful news network was forced to settle for the name "Erie News Later" because they waited twenty-four years to get started. That's more than fifteen years after "Erie News Now" was adopted by the other network. "I procrastinated on my vision," says the CEO of Erie News Later. "I saw the potential in timely news, but waited because I thought the idea was too original." That delay cost the brand greatly. Erie News Later is not allowed to deliver their news until after Erie News Now finishes their report. "We may have a really good breaking news story," the CEO expressed to us from the comfort of his mother's basement. "Unfortunately, our name means we have to wait until Erie News Now is done with the story. At that point, nobody watches our report because they already watched it on Erie News Now." With nobody consistently watching the network, Erie News Later is forced to shut down permanently. Although outdated news occasionally surfaces as a social media trend, experts say this is rare and usually the result of readers failing to check the dates on their articles. Erie News Later is at a disadvantage in a world that has shifted away from outdated information in up-to-date reports. "It's just sad that my revolutionary idea was taken," says the CEO. "My original idea, and I'm the one whose network relies on old methods."

  • Clarion Hit With Blizzard in Wake of Elk’s Groundhog Day Control

It has officially begun. Elk County has committed seasonal sabotage on Clarion County. After threatening to exercise their power over the Groundhog Day accords, western Pennsylvania is now seeing what Mayor Bighorn of Elk County is willing to do to gain power over the neighboring counties. Residents of Clarion woke to mounds of snow covering the streets Thursday morning. With Jefferson’s capital of Punxsutawney in the hands of Elk County military, political threats have been made to extend winter past their usual six weeks. The first example of this threat of universal control over western Pennsylvania has resulted in Clarion residents becoming victims to a Christmas season they don't want. "My coats were packed away along with my Christmas decor," states Mrs. Barhopper. "This is the season where I recover from constant complaints about what my children didn't get for Christmas. Now that trauma will resume." The psychological tool of Elk County's political dominance is unlike anything experts have seen. Researchers at Clarion University predict an increase of child whininess to levels never before seen if Elk can successfully convince younglings that Christmas is possible beyond the month of April. As Elk County troops march on to the city of Clarion for direct engagement, County War 1 is now shifting in favor of the enemy, who has most recently been named the Zugnar Alliance. So far, the only county finding success in the Zugnar Alliance is Elk County, whose neighboring allies, East Crawford and Warren County, have struggled to succeed in their invasion attempts. Now, it seems that the Elk are the force to be reckoned with and the treaty of PLATO must decide how they must manage this crisis.

  • Westmoreland County Requests More Land West: Allegheny Denies Request

"They just won't stop asking!" Mayor Steelhead told the press yesterday after once again receiving a call from the political powers that be in Westmoreland County. The natives to Westmoreland are obsessed with getting more land, but it always has to be westward of their current county. Despite being offered land north, south, and east of their current location, they always reject such offers and instead pester Allegheny instead. "We just can't get enough of land in the west," Mayor Expansion of Hempfield told the press. "Perhaps it's the hemp we grow in the field. We are obsessed with moving westward to get more land, but are always getting offers from people everywhere else on the compass!" According to Mayor Expansion, his people have nothing against the counties north, south, and east of their territory. It's just that their bloodline has always expanded west, making it a tradition for their people. "If we expand north, it must be northwest. If we expand south, it must be southwest. We would only ever consider moving east if it were possible to do it westward. That's how obsessed we are!" Mayor Steelhead isn't having it. After eighteen years of daily calls requesting permission to expand, he is ready to throw out the phone. Despite having a head of iron (that is an understatement), he is mentally exhausted from constantly having to say no. Mayor Steelhead exhausted to the point of mispelling Pittsburgh "I am mentally exhausted from having to say no," Steelhead told our reporter just before dipping his head in a bucket of rust. The barrage of questions is not enough to justify political sanctions. Nonetheless, Steelhead may consider uninviting Mayor Expansion from his yearly metalhead concert. He hopes the threat will be enough to resolve the matter.

  • Western PA Faces Threat of Winter Temperatures as Elk Demands Control of Clarion

Weeks of conflict in the east side of Western Pennsylvania has led to Elk County exercising their power over the Groundhog Day accords. After the fall of Punxsutawney handed political authority of winter’s end to Elk County, the regime of Mayor Bighorn is seeking to overthrow the Pennsylvania Land and Treaty Organization, otherwise known as PLATO. Pensylvania Land and Treaty Organization in blue. Everything else not the Pennsylvania Land and Treaty Organization.... Clarion defenses are still scarce thanks to the three morons making up their military still being lost somewhere in Butler. Mayor Intellect of Clarion is now calling on the counties of the PLATO alliance to come to their aid. Clarion Military Morons just before getting lost in Butler "Our university students are not prepared for physical altercations with Elk military," Mayor Intellect told the press. "We are a community who thrives on knowledge over physical strength, except for Saturdays when we are partying at the bars." Forest County has been unable to respond to anyone's request for military intervention given that they have no population to raise their own troops. Despite being the neighboring county of Clarion, they have depended heavily on Venango County to help drive East Crawford forces from their capital of Marienville. 9-year-old Timmy finished the job just two days ago. As for the other counties in the PLATO treaty, nothing is expected to come from them either. West Crawford is currently trying to secure their border to defend against East Crawford. Venango troops are still stationed at their northern border outside East Crawford's capital of Titusville. Mercer has done nothing since the conflict began, leading us to wonder if they take this war seriously. Finally, Jefferson proved their uselessness when the Elk County invasion resulted in an immediate retreat. Mayor Phil of Punxsutawney still calls it "Jefferson expansion." The PLATO treaty is proving to be a complete failure. Even worse, Elk County is now threatening to lower the warm temperatures to 20 below if Clarion does not surrender their land. County War 1 has led to all of western Pennsylvania sitting at the mercy of Pennsylvania antelope. For those who are slow, that is a reference to Elk County.

  • Morrison Converts to Water Park Just In Time for Spring

They technically can't take all the credit since Mother Nature did the work, but Morrison Park in Seneca will now feature water attractions at the base of their playgrounds after rain filled their less elevated ground with muddy water. The innovations have been years in the making, with no official move made until last night's thunderstorm. Now, the park is open with water attractions fun for every kid. Although mothers everywhere will be furious having to wash the mud out of their children's hair, local experts believe this renovation will potentially make billions of dollars..... There are no local experts, just laymen with aspirations to learn how to read numbers..... The park currently has no fee to enter. Family packages are available to anyone with the time to walk right in. Fathers are given a 10% discount when they can prove their ability to count to zero, which is the price you pay to enjoy the experience. Weekend stay is available at the price of a trip to the county jail when you refuse to pack up your tent after hours. For more information, call Jenny at 8675309. • Utility Street Worker Finally Finds His Keys After Two Weeks of Road Work

The excessive digging up and down the Liberty Street stretch in Franklin, Pennsylvania, can finally come to an end after work crews finally found their co-worker's keys, according to utility workers. Crews had finally completed their ninth hole in the last two weeks and were fortunate to find the item they've been looking for this entire time. "We have been to three different towns since the search began," states Mr. Hardhat of Polk, Pennsylvania. "I had almost lost hope that I'd be able to drive again, considering that looking for keys like this is like looking for a needle in a haystack." Unfortunately, that needle was never found. Crews have been digging for approximately two weeks and finally discovered the keys just outside of the Debence Music Museum at about 5 p.m. Tuesday evening. This isn't the first time that crews have lost a set of keys in a place that they have previously worked. Last year, a utility worker dropped the keys to their excavator in a hole they soon paved over in Titusville. Reports say that when the excavator wouldn't turn on, the utility workers resorted to shovels, failing to realize that the keys were being buried underground. When the excavator wouldn't move, they towed it away and completely forgot where they buried the keys. It took them five months to find it. Fortunately for this crew, they were able to discover the keys in less than a month after losing them. Utility workers are being encouraged not to bring keys to the worksite, which will make it impossible for them to drive there. They would create a policy to leave the keys in the vehicles, but after locking themselves out of their dump truck three years ago, they now have a policy not to leave keys in their vehicles. This dilemma with the keys is becoming a real issue that may result in a ban on all vehicles requiring keys. In other news, dump truck theft up by 79% in town that has banned vehicles requiring keys.

  • Warren County Threatens to Drop Diaper on Oil City

Political tensions are now shifting to discussions of nuclear disgust between Warren and the alliance of PLATO. According to reports from the Crawford Carnage, Warren County has expressed their unwavering support for Venango County's sworn enemy, East Crawford, with threats of an ultimate obliteration to Oil City pride..... They haven't been here in years.... The conflict escalated Monday evening after Warren County soldiers discovered a straw stretching across their city with the end dangling over the opening of one of their oil wells. When reports reached Mayor Fossil Fuel of Warren City, capital of Warren County, the self-declared president of Warren deduced that it was another attempt by Venango to siphon their oil in an attempt to renew their industry. President Mayor Blunders of the Venango States of America denied the allegations, stating that the pipeline he initiated for that purpose is still short by at least ten straws. He further argued that the line of straws he has named the Lockrock Pipeline requires suction from a person who can walk two steps without panting, a trait uncommon in northwestern Pennsylvania. Mayor Fossil Fuel of Warren is refusing to listen to Blunders claim to innocence and is now threatening to launch a nuclear diaper in the direction of Oil City to cripple county pride..... They haven't been here in years..... Blunders is showing no fear to the threat which was broadcast over the public loudspeaker this morning. According to experts from Venango Campus, Blunders fearless demeanor may be credited to the fact he covered his ears during the announcement and started yelling "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!" With President Mayor Blunders unaware of the potential poopy baby shower coming to Oil City, residents are in fear that the city's anti-diaper defense system may not be deployed. Locals have tried to warn Blunders of the oncoming threat, but he keeps interrupting with "BLAH BLAH BLAH" while covering his ears. Only one word of hope was spoken by Blunders since the threat he refuses to learn about. In the wake of Venango County recently progressing to an 11th world country, Blunders acknowledged the financial strain and food shortage plaguing this satirical universe in an attempt to tie it into this unrelated conflict. Blunders stood before the press and said "they can't take our money, they can't take our food, but they can take our freedom!" Impeachment hearings are scheduled to take place tomorrow at three with Speaker of the House, the Mayor's sister, coordinating the discussion.

  • Venango County Forgets to Celebrate One Year of Independence

It is currently April, one month after the first anniversary of Venango County's secession from the United States of America. While the negligence of Mayor Blunders forgetting to celebrate his unrecognized nation can technically be blamed on the Venango Republic's author, we are still going to blame Mayor Blunders since he is supposed to be the idiot representing this universe. On March 10th of 2025, the Venango Republic reported a secession from the union as ordered by self-declared President Mayor Blunders. Shortly thereafter, Blunders drove up the county debt when he mistakenly ordered 30 trillion dollars of food from China City. Thankfully, the United States government did not recognize Blunders' initial secession given that Washington D.C. doesn't know we exist. Venango County was able to rejoin the union, hand the debt over to the United States, and secede one more time. Despite tricking the union into increasing the United States national debt to 70 trillion, Venango County's second secession still made us a 10th world country. Even worse, we can't celebrate our second secession because it took place on March 17th of 2025. If Blunders wants to have a first anniversary independence day, he has to convince Washington to let us back into the Union, secede a third time, and wait an entire year. The Venango States of America is more than a year old and we all forgot to celebrate. It looks like we truly don't care for the nation we have fought so hard to preserve. Despite countless rallies with locals chanting the famous phrase "V-S-A! V-S-A!" we were not passionate enough to pay attention to our calendars. Venango County will now go down in history as the first independent nation to forget its own birthday.
